Datacentre optimisation
Gartner’s research has shown that the ICT industry is responsible for CO2 emissions which are equal to all air traffic. The total ICT industry therefore needs to take responsibility for this. Costs can be saved with datacentre optimisation, as many data centres use a great deal of energy and also take up a great deal of space.
Datacentre optimisation demands a multiple approach. Several ICT aids need to be used in order to realise an optimal result.
These could include:
- More effective storage management and storage consolidation.
- A reduction in the number of servers through server consolidation.
- Server virtualisation as a method for running several virtual servers on one physical server.
- Power and cooling reduction as a result of the aforementioned optimisation methods and redesign of the datacentre.
